about
and for the longest time it didn't feel like love, if i didn't have armor on.
this has been a year in the making, and i'm so glad to finally have this song available for everyone to enjoy. armor was my new years resolution song for 2018, and while i barely achieved any of the goals i set for myself through the song, i learned a lot about myself and continue to every time i play or listen to it. thank you for coming along on this wild creative ride with me. i hope to have many more songs for you all coming soon.
lyrics
verse 1:
this year's the year
that i put down the pen
stop carving melancholic words
into my metaphoric skin
and things may not get better
but they can't get more f*cked up
i'm headed towards rock bottom
i've been told that's where
things start looking up
verse 2:
i've been growing up
and at the same time growing thin
it's like my weathered bones don't recognize
the shell that they're in
so to say the least
i'm trying to clean up my act
misery loves company
but if you're asking me
i'll pass
chorus:
and for the longest time
it didn't feel like love,
if i didn't have armor on
but i put my guns down
i lift my white flag
i'm done, i'm done, i'm done
verse 3:
satisfaction is a pretty lie
we tell ourselves to fall asleep
gold plated, we'll escape it
run away in our dreams
i'm so tired of grinning
and bearing this grey washed normalcy
i'm moving forward, moving on
moving purposefully
chorus 2:
and for the longest time
it didn't feel like love
if i didn't have armor on
my biggest mistake
was getting in the way
i'm gone, i'm gone, i'm gone
verse 4:
when all is said and done
nothing's said and nothing's done
the going won't get better
haven't you heard it just gets gone
so maybe i will take the hint
and loosen my grip on all my vices
i've heard that people they don't change
but god i'm really trying
i'm trying
chorus 3:
for the longest time
it didn't feel like love
if i didn't have armor on
this time it's different
this time it's better
i'm gone, i'm gone, i'm gone
and for the longest time
it didn't feel like love
if i didn't have armor on
this time, i'll count my blessings
i am a blessing
i'm gone i'm gone i'm gone
i'm done i'm done i'm done
i'm done i'm done i'm done
